Financing Biodiversity
“By 2008, there should be substantially increased public and private financial investments in integrated biodiversity activities in Europe.” The Kiev resolution on biodiversity signed in 2003 by Environment Ministers across the pan-European region sets this and other ambitious targets.
Increased financing for biodiversity could take the form of partnerships with the finance and business sectors, that have resulted in new investment opportunities and facilities. The European Biodiversity Resourcing Initiative is working on reaching this target, taking into account the special needs of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia.
