GudauriIUCN Regional Office for Europe, the Countdown 2010 Secretariat and the Georgian Centre for The Conservation of Wildlife organized an international conference “Countdown 2010 in the Caucasus - From Commitments to Action” on 15-17 May 2006 in Gudauri, Georgia. The Countdown 2010 initiative for the Caucasus countries was launched during this event, and a Media Training for twelve journalists from central and Eastern Europe was held in parallel.

The present transition to a market economy requires increased efforts to ensure that the rich natural heritage of the Caucasus is used sustainably.
